Romania Digital Nomad Visa from Pakistan

Remote employees and company owners working for a company registered outside Romania may qualify for its digital nomad visa, a route whose income threshold is set in lei rather than euro.

Next Visa Step checks all six months of your income against the lei figure, prepares the apostilles and Romanian translations, and gets the file ready for the mission.

The short answer

Income requirements for the Romania digital nomad visa

A lei figure, tested month by month.

At least three times the average gross monthly salary in Romania, which is 27,576 lei a month against the 9,192 lei salary in the 2026 budget law. Romania publishes no euro figure. Converted, it lands somewhere between €5,400 and €5,800, depending on the rate and on which official salary average is used. We prepare every file to the higher end. The rule on the Immigration Inspectorate's site.

Each of the last six months has to clear it, not the average. The law also asks for the income to continue for the whole period written in the visa. So we look at your weakest month as closely as your best, and at whether the contract or company income carries on after you land.

How much does the Romania digital nomad visa cost?

What the government charges

€300 for the long-stay visa, the rate the Foreign Ministry has charged since 27 April 2026. The residence step in Romania carries its own fees, which we confirm at filing. Insurance, apostilles and translations are your own costs. Our fee is separate. Visa fees on the eVisa portal.

Financial evidence

How the money reaches you

  • Income for each of the last six months

Freelancer

Through your own company

The law does not name freelancers, so the company and its income carry the file.

Remote employee

One employer abroad

A contract, the company document, and six payslips that each clear the line.

Company owner

A company registered abroad

Ownership and role on paper, and income that reaches you every month.

Apostille proves a document is genuine. A translation makes it readable. The tax certificate and the criminal record need the Ministry of Foreign Affairs apostille. The contract, the company document, the letter of intent and the criminal record need certified Romanian translations. We time the translations after the apostilles so each is done once.

What happens after the visa is approved?

The visa gets you in for 90 days. Residence is a second step. Inside that time you apply to the General Inspectorate for Immigration for the right of residence. The general rule is to file at least 30 days before your current permission runs out, so we plan that date before you fly.

Filing from Pakistan: you validate the online form on the eVisa portal first, then attend the Romanian mission covering where you live, which for residents of Pakistan is the Embassy in Islamabad. A decision is due within 30 days of your appointment. Read the supporting documents list before you submit.

From experience

Why do strong applications still get questioned?

Usually because the file was built for a euro threshold and an average.

01

One month below the line

A client pays late, and one of the six months dips. The average still looks strong, but the law asks about each month on its own.

How we handle itWe map all six months against the lei figure first, and move the filing date if one of them falls short.

02

A euro figure from an old guide

Income that cleared a figure converted two years ago can fall short today. The salary behind the threshold rose again on 30 March 2026.

How we handle itWe work from the current salary reading and keep a margin above the higher end of the range.

03

No tax certificate

Romania asks for proof that taxes on the income are paid, apostilled. Many applicants only notice this when the rest of the file is ready.

How we handle itThe tax certificate is the first document we order, because it takes the longest.

04

Nothing about the months ahead

The test also covers the whole visa period. A contract ending next month, or a company with no forward work, leaves that half unanswered.

How we handle itWe add a current contract or client letters that show the income carries on after you arrive.

Questions

Romania digital nomad visa FAQs

What is the income requirement for the Romania digital nomad visa in 2026?

At least three times the average gross monthly salary in Romania. Against the salary in the 2026 budget law that is 27,576 lei a month. Romania publishes no euro figure, and depending on the salary reading and the exchange rate it converts to roughly €5,400 to €5,800.

Is it an average over six months?

No. The law says the income must reach the threshold for each of the last six months before you apply, and for the whole period written in the visa. One weak month inside those six can sink a file with a strong average.

Why do some guides still say €3,700 a month?

Because they converted an old salary figure. The multiplier has not changed since 2022, but the Romanian average salary has risen every year, and the threshold rises with it. Any euro number without a date and a salary reading behind it is out of date.

Who qualifies?

Someone employed under a contract with a company registered outside Romania, or someone who owns a company registered outside Romania, and who works remotely using technology. Freelancers are not named separately. In our reading, a freelancer fits only through a company they own.

How long is the visa, and what happens after it?

The long-stay D/AS visa is issued for 90 days. Staying longer means applying to the General Inspectorate for Immigration in Romania for the right of residence, and the general rule is to file at least 30 days before your current permission expires.

Where do I apply from Pakistan?

You first fill in and validate the online form on the eVisa portal, then attend the Romanian mission covering the place where you live. For residents of Pakistan that is the Embassy in Islamabad. If you live in the Gulf, it is the mission in your country of residence.

How long does the decision take?

The eVisa portal says a long-stay visa is decided within 30 days of presenting yourself at the mission, and asks you to apply at least 45 days before you plan to travel. We plan around the longer end.

Can my spouse and children come with me?

No official page we read says. The family reunification visa does not name digital nomads as sponsors, and there is no published income uplift for dependants. We confirm the position with the mission before promising a family any date.

Which documents need an apostille or a translation?

The tax certificate and the criminal record must be apostilled. The contract, the company document, the letter of intent and the criminal record need certified translations into Romanian. English alone is not accepted.

Will I pay tax in Romania?

The Fiscal Code exempts digital nomads from Romanian pension contributions while they stay no more than 183 days in any 12 months. We found no income tax exemption for this route. Tax residence has its own rules, so speak to a Romanian adviser before you plan around it.

The reference salary is set in article 19 of the 2026 social insurance budget law. We do not give tax advice.
